The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative [NEITI] invites oil and gas companies,the civil society and relevant government agencies to a national interactive forum on the petroleum industry bill(PIB).

The Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) has been presented to the National Assembly for consideration and passage into law. The PIB is an important Bill expected to drive the reforms in the Oil and Gas sector in Nigeria. In view of the above, NEITI is convening the forum on the Bill to sensitize stakeholders on its provisions with a view to stimulating quality debate and constructive engagement from different view points for the purpose of gathering reliable information,data and generate ideas that will assist the National Assembly in the consideration and passage of the bill.

Experts in petroleum and energy legislation,the EITI,Oil and Gas industry executives are expected to speek at the event.

One of the primary objectives of NEITI as provided in Section 2 of the NEITI Act 2007 is to ensure that there is due process, transparency and accountability in what companies doing business in Nigeria’s oil and gas industries, solid minerals and others in the extractive sector pay to government of Nigeria in the form of tax, royalty, bonuses, levies etc. Besides, NEITI is also to ensure that due process, transparency and accountability is strictly applied in what government receives, what it is expected to receive and what companies pay and what they are expected to pay to government as at when due.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the full implementation of the principles of extractive industries transparency initiative in the Nigerian oil, gas and mining sector. The President gave this assurance  through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim while inaugurating the Board of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in Abuja.

The Board of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has approved the appointment of Mr. Tariye Omunguye George as the new Director, Technical. Mr. George replaces Kasim Yahuza who has resigned his appointment.
