CSOs Define Rules of Engagement

The Civil Society steering committee engaging on NEITI met on the 31st August 2010 to make inputs into NEITI work plan and strategies for 2011.

The meeting was presided over by the chairman of the NEITI civil society steering committee Comrade Shehu Sani who is also a member of the NSWG.

Chairman of the NSWG Professor Assisi Asobie briefed the members on the exit of the former Executive Secretary, arrangements for the appointment of a new Executive Secretary, the 2011 budget and work plan projections and preparations of NEITI ahead of EITI validation exercise slated for Tanzania this October. He called on the civil society to support NEITI in the ongoing re-organisation exercise at the secretariat, expand their scope of engagement to promote greater efficiency, openness, and transparency in NEITI operations.

The Director of Communications Orji Ogbonnaya Orji whose department coordinates civil society participation in NEITI was introduced to the committee members.

About fifteen members of the civil society were present at the meeting. The civil society engaging with NEITI ensures that NEITI mandates are implemented without deviation.
