A new draft Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) initiated by the National Assembly is now ready. The debate on the new bill is to commence any moment from now.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki made this disclosure at a Business Roundtable held recently. He explained that both the Senate and House of Representatives had resolved to commence debate on the bill.
A harmonized version of the bill ahead of the formal presentation before each chamber of the National Assembly has been produced.
Bukola Saraki, the President of the Senate added “The Senate and the House of Representatives are working very closely together. As part of this commitment, we would all lay down the PIB for debate. You will see that the bill we are going to lay in each house is the same. We are going to lay the same version in the Senate and the House of Representatives because that is going to be the first time we are open to our words”.
Saraki further explained that the roundtable discussion would also serve as a veritable platform for the private sector, legislature and the executive to engage one another on the draft legislation.
