The former Executive Secretary of NEITI and the former Chair EITI were jointly honored at a dinner for their meritorious service to NEITI and global EITI.
The event held at Reiz Continental Hotel Abuja attracted the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, Ministers, Development Partners, Members of the diplomatic corps, the Media and the Civil Society.
On the occasion, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr. Babachir Lawal described Mrs. Zainab Ahmed as a selfless and hardworking professional.
All categories of NEITI Staff took turns to praise the resilience, humility, efficiency and vision of the former Executive Secretary. The Ag. Executive Secretary, Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji said “Her leadership led to NEITI being declared as the best implementing country at the 6th Global Conference of the EITI held in Sydney, Australia in 2013”.
Similar tributes were also paid to Clare Shorts who was represented at the event by the Deputy Head of the EITI Secretariat, Eddy Rich. Clare Shorts was described by all as a true friend of NEITI.
The event was in recognition of the achievements of Mrs. Ahmed during her five year tenure as the Executive Secretary. It was also to celebrate Clare Short for piloting the affairs of EITI for four years.
During her tenure EITI rose from 29 to 52 member countries. Clare short stepped down last month at the 7th Global Conference of EITI held in Lima, Peru.
