The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) holds a capacity building workshop for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the South East zone. This is part of its ongoing capacity building programs for CSOs at zonal levels across the country.
The training workshop which is scheduled for 19th – 20th September, 2011 in Umuahia, Abia State, is aimed at equipping CSOs in the zone with knowledge on EITI/NEITI’s objectives, principles, methods and processes to enable them play their expected roles in the implementation of EITI/NEITI mandate.
Civil Society is a major stakeholder in the EITI/NEITI process. Therefore, the roles of civil society which includes advocacy, sensitization, whistle-blowing, monitoring and oversight are key and unique in the EITI/NEITI implementation.
