As part of efforts to get Sao Tome and Principe fully back into the EITI process, a delegation from NEITI has commenced a working visit to Sao Tome e Principe.
The visit which is in response to the new targets set by the NEITI Board is led by NEITI Chairman, Professor Assisi Asobie. Others in the delegation are the NEITI Executive Secretary, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, Mr. Garba Yakawada of NEITI Technical Department and Amanda Lumun Feese representing the World Bank Country Office in Abuja.
During the visit, the Team is expected to hold consultations with Sao Tome e Principe authorities on the need to return to EITI, increased relevance of EITI to the economic development of the country and continued participation of Sao Tome e Principe in the Joint Development Authority Multi Stakeholders Group established in 2009.
At the last meeting of the NEITI National Stakeholders Working Group (NSWG) held in Abuja on 17th May, 2011, the NEITI Secretariat was directed to work closely with Sao Tome e Principe members of the Joint Development Authority as well as the World Bank to commission the auditing/reconciling of revenue flows generated in the Joint Development Zone of Sao Tome e Principe.
The visit is a fundamental step in the realization of the NEITI work plan for the Joint Development Zone.
