The World Bank has welcomed the re-organization of NEITI Secretariat, and the appointment of a new Executive Secretary Mrs Zainab Ahmed. The World Bank Country Director in Nigeria Mr. Onno Ruhl said during a visit to NEITI Secretariat, that the appointment of the Executive Secretary and the strengthening of the Secretariat were fundamental steps required by NEITI to live up to the expectations of stakeholders in the Extractive sector.
He urged the Executive Secretary and the new team in NEITI to evolve a strategic work plan that will enable the organization cover lost grounds through regular conduct of its audit in all areas of the Extractive sector. He further advised the Executive Secretary to explore ways of expanding NEITI’s engagements with government at the highest level. He pledged the support of the World Bank to the new NEITI team, towards overcoming all issues raised by the EITII Board over Validation.
The Executive Secretary of NEITI Mrs. Zainab Ahmed in her remarks assured the World Bank that a new NEITI is born. She also appealed to the Donor Community to renew its confidence in NEITI under her leadership. She affirmed that concrete steps have been taken to meet the EITI conditions for NEITI to attain ‘full compliant’ status, hopefully early in the New Year.
