- Seeks collaboration with NEITI
The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) for reportage of issues in the extractive sector.
The Executive Secretary of NEITI Mr. Waziri Adio, made this known when a team from ICIR paid a courtesy visit to the NEITI Secretariat in Abuja.
While commending management of the centre for its decision to visit the NEITI Secretariat, Mr. Adio noted that they are many areas of convergence between the two organisations. .
The Executive Secretary briefed the visiting team on the mandate of NEITI and expressed confidence that ICIR has what it takes to advance the work of NEITI by investigating the level of compliance with the findings and recommendation of its audit reports.
‘’We engage civil society organisations, media and the larger society on the activities of NEITI and expect them to ask questions that will translate to optimum utilization of extractive resources’’, Adio stated.
He maintained that where NEITI’s work stops is where the work of others begins but what matters most is the common goal of ensuring that extractive resources benefit all Nigerians.
In his remarks, the Executive Director of ICIR , Mr. Dayo Aiyetan said his organisation is planning to delve into investigative, research and reporting of extractive industry issues and needs to leverage on the information and data that NEITI provides.
‘’To examine the extractive sector, we need to collaborate with NEITI and lean on its expertise to understand the sector’’, Mr. Aiyetan said.
